Introducing Naomi

Volunteers truly are the lifeblood of Emmanuel City Mission. Put simply, without them we wouldn’t be here.

Naomi is one of our amazing volunteers. She has been volunteering since March thanks to a placement with the Australian Catholic University.

“I remember my very first shift, I was so excited, but didn’t know what to expect. I jumped onto the breakfast station and started making tea and toast. I remember so clearly serving my very first visitor and I remember thinking it felt so lovely to help someone and make them feel special. From that very moment I was hooked, “ said Naomi.

“I was only meant to do a five-week placement with Emmanuel City Mission as part of my university degree, but once those weeks were up, I decided to stay. It’s now been nearly 5 months of volunteering, I just love being there,” she said.

An average day of volunteering sees Naomi helping in the kitchen serving nutritious lunches to hungry visitors. She also helps with washing and loves time chatting with the visitors and hearing their stories.

“I love that the staff at Emmanuel City Mission accept every person who walks through the doors with no judgement, every visitor is shown love and kindness,” she said.

If you would like the opportunity to volunteer at Emmanuel City Mission just like Naomi, please don’t hesitate to send us an email at contact@ecm.org.au.
