Volunteer with Emmanuel City Mission

At Emmanuel City Mission, we connect homeless and vulnerable people with people who care; our volunteers are the people who care.

We believe in a church that is a field hospital for the sick and broken: our volunteers embody this, serving at the coalface every single day and caring for Brisbane's most vulnerable and often overlooked.

As a ministry, many of our volunteers see Emmanuel City Mission as a calling and vocation. If you too feel called here and want to become a part of a mission that is changing lives every day, we would love to hear from you.

Whether you can commit to once a week, once a fortnight, once a month, or just when you can, you are welcome here.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect from a typical shift at ECM?

Our volunteers undertake a wide range of tasks throughout their shift, and no two days are the same. On your first shift, you will likely be placed in the kitchen under the guidance of either our head cook or an experienced volunteer. Other activities include: making toast for our visitors, barista duties, sorting donations, general cleaning, chatting to our people, and more.

Do I need to volunteer on a set day?

Preferably, we'd like our volunteers to serve on the same day each week. This makes it easier for our staff to recall when you come in.

Can I bring a friend to volunteer with me?

If you would like to bring a friend in to volunteer with you, they too will need to complete our volunteer requirements.

Do I need to be over 18? Can I bring my child with me?

Due to the nature of what we do here, Emmanuel City Mission is an 18+ facility. In saying this, there are some instances where teenagers serve with us, and this is predominately through our schools lunch program.

I would like to volunteer with a group. Can I do this?

Yes, absolutely! We love welcoming community and corporate groups serve with us here at Emmanuel City Mission. If this sounds like something you are interested in, send us an email at: contact@ecm.org.au
